Summary of The importance of being Earnest Essay Example For Students
Summary of The importance of being Earnest Essay While Algernon Moncrieff and his manservant prepared for a visit froi-n his aunt, the formidable Lady Bracknell, their conversation turned to the question of marriage. Observing the servants somewhat lax views on the subject, Algernon declared, Really, if the lower orders dont set us a good example, what on earth is the use of them? This chat was interrupted by the unexpected arrival of Algernons friend, Ernest Worthing Worthing was pleased to hear that Lady Bracknell and her beautiful daughter Gwendolen would be appearing for tea. But Algernon warned, I am afraid Aunt Augusta wont quite approve of your bein here. Mildly insulted, Ernest demanded to know why. My dear fellow, Algernon answered, the way you flirt with Gwendolen is perfectly disgraceful. We will write a custom essay on Summary of The importance of being Earnest specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now It is almost as bad as the way Gwendolen flirts with you. At this point Worthing announced that he intended to propose marriage to Gwendolen, but was taken aback by Algernons response: I dont give my consent. Worthing, would first have to explain a certain Cecily in his life. As evidence of this relationship, he produced a cigarette case left behind by Worthing on an earlier visit devotedly inscribed from Cecily to her loving Uncle Jack. Well, admitted Worthing, my name is Ernest in town and Jack in the country. It happened, he said, that Cecily was his ward, who lived in his country home under the watchful eyes of a stern governess, Miss Prism. But to escape the stuffy constraints of country living, Jack had invented an alter ego: . . . In order to get up to town I have always pretended to have a younger brother of the name of Ernest, who lives in Albany, and gets into the most dreadful scrapes. Thus, Jack was often called away to the city to rescue irrepressible Ernest. Smiling, Algernon now confessed that he too was a Bunburyist, a friend of the equally fictitious Bunbury, a permanent invalid, whom he visited whenever he chose to get away. When Lady Bracknell and Gwendolen arrived, Algernon took his aunt aside, leaving Ernest and Gwendolen alone. Miss Fairfax, Worthing stammered, ever since I met you I have admired you more than any girl I have ever met since I met you. Gwendolen admitted to returning these warm feelings, in part because my ideal has always been to love someone of the name of Ernest. Would she still love him, asked Jack, if his name were, say, Jack? There is very little music in the name Jack, observed Gweildolen. Before more could be said, Jack knelt and asked her to marry him. At that moment Lady Bracknell entered, and the couple announced their engagement. Highly displeased, Lady Bracknell requested a private conference with Mr. Worthing, in which she asked about his income, his politics, and, finally, his parentage. I dont actually know who I am by birth, lack explained; as a baby he had been found in a handbag in the coalroom of the train station. Lady Bracknell was shocked. Neither she nor her husband, she huffed, could allow Gwendolen to marry into a cloak-room, and form an alliance with a parcel. Now Jack considered his predicament. At least, he decided, he could deal with the complication of Ernest. His imaginary brother must soon dic of a severe chill. Deep in these new intrigues, he left. Meanwhile, Algernon, his curiosity piqued by jacks mysterious young ward, decided he must meet this Cecily. At the Manor in Hertfordshire, Miss Prism and Cecily were talking in the garden. Cecily expressed the hope that Jack would soon allow his reprobate brother Ernest to visit: We might have a good influence over him. .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a , .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a .postImageUrl , .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a , .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a:hover , .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a:visited , .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a:active { border:0!important; } .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a:active , .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u7afa5ab782fb6422803dd315b7ec8e0a:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Procrastination Essay Miss Prism discouraged this idea, but just a few moments after she had left for a stroll with her own admirer, Dr. Chasuble, the local minister, the butler announced the arrival of Mr. Ernest Worthing, and in walked Algernon Moncrieff, posing as Jacks deliciously wicked and non-existent brother. After some chit-chat and over a bite to eat, Ernest (Algy) implored his cousin to reform him. Soon Miss Prism and the Reverend returned, just in time to be greeted by Jack Worthing, .

Find out What Marine Conservation Is
Find out What Marine Conservation Is Marine conservation is also known as ocean conservation. The health of all life on Earth depends (directly or indirectly) on a healthy ocean. As humans began to realize their increasing impacts on the ocean, the field of marine conservation arose in response. This article discusses the definition of marine conservation, techniques used in the field, and some of the most important ocean conservation issues. Marine Conservation Definition Marine conservation is the protection of marine species and ecosystems in oceans and seas worldwide. It involves not only protection and restoration of species, populations, and habitats but also mitigating human activities such as overfishing, habitat destruction, pollution, whaling and other issues that impact marine life and habitats. A related term you may encounter is marine conservation biology, which is the use of science to solve conservation issues.à Brief History of Ocean Conservation People became more aware of their impacts on the environment in the 1960s and 1970s. Around this same time, Jacques Cousteau brought the wonder of the oceans to people through television. As scuba diving technology improved, more people took to the undersea world. Whalesong recordings fascinated the public, helped people recognize whales as sentient beings, and led to whaling bans. Also in the 1970s, laws were passed in the U.S. regarding protection of marine mammals (Marine Mammal Protection Act), protection of endangered species (Endangered Species Act), overfishing (Magnuson Stevens Act) and clean water (Clean Water Act), and establishing a National Marine Sanctuary Program (Marine Protection, Research and Sanctuaries Act). In addition, theà International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships was enacted to reduce ocean pollution. In more recent years, as ocean issues came to the forefront, the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy was established in 2000 to develop recommendations for a new and comprehensive national ocean policy.à This led to the creation of the National Ocean Council, which is charged with implementing the National Ocean Policy, which establishes a framework for managing the ocean, Great Lakes, and coastal areas, encourages more coordination between the Federal, state and local agencies charged with managing ocean resources, and using marine spatial planning effectively. Marine Conservation Techniques Marine conservation work can be done by enforcing and creating laws, such as the Endangered Species Act and Marine Mammal Protection Act. It can also be done by establishing marine protected areas, studying populations through conducting stock assessments and mitigating human activities with the goal of restoring populations. à An important part of marine conservation is outreach and education. A popular environmental education quote by conservationist Baba Dioum states that In the end, we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught. Marine Conservation Issues Current and emerging issues in marine conservation include: Ocean acidificationClimate change and warming ocean temperatures.Sea level riseReducing bycatch in marine fisheries and entanglements in fishing gear.Establishing marine protected areasà to protect important habitats, commercially and/or recreationally-valuable species and feeding and breeding areas.Regulating whalingProtecting coral reefs through studying the problem of coral bleaching.Addressing the worldwide problem of invasive species.Marine debris and the issue of plastics in the ocean.Dealing with the problem of shark finning.Oil spills (an issue the public became well aware of thanks to the Exxon Valdez and Deepwater Horizon spills). The ongoing debate of the appropriateness of cetaceans in captivity.Studying and protecting endangered species (e.g., North Atlantic right whale, vaquita, sea turtles, monk seals and many other threatened and endangered species). Baroque Era
In all respects, baroque music is like the anger of teenagers. Well, even in such a way that you do not pay for the way we expect from modern teenagers, they may not be criticized as all they might be surprised. But what do you do, what is a teenager? Briefly, teenagers are no longer children, not adults. When all the rules are broken, there seems to be nothing that matches it, and when the mood fluctuates dramatically, this is the middle stage of embarrassment. This is Baroque music. To better understand this, remember that the Renaissance is the reproduction of art and music, and the classical era is its birth. The Baroque era is thought to be the beginning of expansion of Western European civilization. The word baroque comes from Portuguese and represents irregular shaped pearls. It is translated from Italian into strange and strange things. The Baroque era refused to regard it as ignorance and wild nature. During this period, women should be unnaturally pale and their bodies shou ld have mysterious hair, but men should not have whiskers or wigs on their heads. He should be full of strength and aroma. (Bukofzer, 24 years old) The era of Baroque art was classified as many as the early Baroque era, the high Baroque era, and the late Baroque era. The era of Rococo art is often regarded as part of the late Baroque era. Over the years, the time frame of the Rococo era and whether it is the same as the Baroque era. The era of Baroque art and Rococo art may be classified in the same era, but in fact it is very unique and unique. The era of baroque art from the 1600s to the mid 1700s began during the Catholic reform in Rome in Italy and spread rapidly to most parts of Europe. In the late 1500s Protestant reform began to attack doctrine like the Catholic church. In response to these attacks, the Catholic Pope began a campaign in the church to rebuild and disseminate Catholic faith. In the meantime most people are unable to read and write, so the church has to design a way to disseminate the message of the gospel so that everyone can understand it. The most important elements of the Baroque period were religious reform and anti-reform, and the development of the Baroque style was thought to be closely related to the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church encouraged the popularity of the Baroque style, the Catholic Church decided at the Trent Committee that art should convey religious themes and guide emotional participation in response to Protestant reforms. Importance of play in the speech and language therapy Assignment
Importance of play in the speech and language therapy - Assignment Example In my opinion, the members of administration team simply do not understand the importance of play in the childrenââ¬â¢s development and I believe such actions will highly affect our department. Playing is one of the activities that young children often spend the better part of their time doing during the day and it is therefore important to appreciate the significance and impact of playing on the learning and development of children (Pellegrini, 278). First and foremost children often use play to experiment and explore new things as well as use words to express their thoughts and ideas during play. As children grow and become more sophisticated in their play skills, their language development may equally advance. Children use language during play to solve problems and to communicate their desires. During play, children are normally provided with opportunities for social interaction with their peers and therefore learn to express and control their emotions using language. Speech an d language learning is an ongoing process that takes place all day long particularly during the childrenââ¬â¢s everyday activities such as playing. During such activities, children usually significantly enhance their communication and language skills in a very indirect way. Additionally play materials that allow children with language problems to play imitative and repetitive games may also them to acquire important skills such as those of listening and attention which are necessary for their speech and language development. According to many speech and language experts, play is one of the most effective and natural ways of encouraging the development of speech and language skills in children. This is particularly because small children usually learn many skills such as listening, attention, sharing, building sentences and imagination through play. Another important reason why it is critically for the hospital administration not to affect any budget cut on the play materials in m y department is that play helps the children to develop their concentration ability. For example playing children not only focus on objects and people but they also listen and learn a lot of new names and words and this is necessary for their communication development. Apart from speech and language development, playing also help children to learn about cultural expectations and norms, discover the world around them and learn how to negotiate their ways in their surroundings. Play also support development and learning of children in a number of ways. Recent research suggests that sufficient play not only enhances growth and enrichment of children but their active participation also facilitates control and mastery leading to feelings of self efficacy and competence. On the other hand, play also encourages children to take turns and this is also important because individuals often take turns to speak and listen during normal conversations. Play enhances confidence in children while ex pressing themselves and through this the child develops the art of; listening and attention, naming, building sentences and understanding. In order to learn a language, children need both to hear and see signs. This is why most of the play materials designed for children are usually labeled and described to enable them to make connection between the objects and the words and eventually learn to use such words. Children need very many playing materials and the proposed budget cuts may potentially affect their learning abilities. Right from birth babies should get sufficient playing materials such as dolls,

Corporate Diversity Program :: essays research papers fc
CORPORATE DIVERSITY PROGRAM à à à à à My company is one of the leading suppliers and distributors of HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning). We are a rather large company, with approximately one hundred employees, somewhat diverse, and also quite profitable. Recently, I received a memo stating that a diversity program was to be established. Diversity is certain qualities in other people that are different than your own. It could be age, gender, race, ethnic background, or sexual preference. It even includes income, religion, and education. A diversity program is intended to center on issues surrounding work relationships. It is meant to explore the specialties and uniqueness of diverse individuals. à à à à à The workplace needs all types of diversity. It is said to have a positive effect. We need diversity to become more inventive and open to change. The article ââ¬Å"Weââ¬â¢d Love To Hire Them, Butâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ on page 311 of Oreââ¬Ës ââ¬Å"The Social Construction of Difference and Inequalityââ¬Å" focuses on race and employment. Evidence from studies suggest that expectations on certain groups can strongly influence job placement. The production of a worker is shaped by relationships with co-workers. Potential and existing employees are not only evaluated by race, but also by their class. This seems to occur less often, only because class is more difficult to distinguish. It is not easily observed, but detected to employers by oneââ¬â¢s clothing, educational background, speech, skills, and place of residence. Productivity coincides with social relationships. It seems as though behavior, not only job skills, are closely related to effective communication s between employees and employers. It has also been suggested that good relations between workers causes higher productivity and increased morale and corporate loyalty. à à à à à Corporation is defined in the dictionary as an organized body, especially a business, that has been granted a state charter recognizing it as a separate legal entity having its own rights, privileges, and liabilities distinct from those of the individuals within the entity. A corporation can acquire assets, enter into contracts, sue or be sued, and pay taxes in its own name. Corporations issue shares of stock to individuals supplying ownership capital and issue bonds to individuals lending money to the business. The corporation is a desirable organization for a business entity for a variety of reasons including the increased capability such an entity has to raise capital. Most large firms, especially those engaged in manufacturing, are organized as corporations. All stocks sold in the primary market and traded in the secondary market are shares of corporate ownership.
